NELSON POULTRY BHOW.
The seventh annual Show of the Nelson Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Assooiation will.be opened this evening at seven o'olook, During to-day the work of judging has been going on, and everything will bo ready when the. show is opeued to the public Taken j altogether the exhibits show a considerable ! _incr_ase in number and improvement in .quality compared with those at previous shows, Leghorns as usual are a large olass and the birds are of good quality. There are far more light Br_hama. than usual and the Langshans are increased iu number. The same ia true of the game birds of the different breeds, whioh are well represented. The Minoroae also are a large olass. Oertain olasses.. suoh as the Hamburgs show a falling off, wbioh is a pity as hardly any sort of poultry ia prettier than the breeds under this class. The Polish birds are numerous, and some new varieties are represented. A breed which is new at Nelson shows, the Orpington, is also exhibited. The display of pigeons is very large, more bo than ever before, and the quality of the birds is generally excellent. Of course the great majority of exhibits are from the Nelson district, but the Bhow is considerably helped by contributions from Wellington and Blenheim. The improvement in the birds bred in this district is evident from year to year, and the present j exhibition shows tbat during, the last | twelve months it has still gone 08. Tq ft. 1
