The Wellington Advertiser states there will be no homeward mail by way of Panama next month, in consequence of an arrangement having been arrived at to alter the dates of departure from this colony to the Ist of each month, the time originally fixed, and it became necessary either to go back or forward a fortnight, The Company have arranged to take the latter course, and the Mataura or Rakaia will follow the Ruahine, which is leaving to-morrow, on the Ist September, and there will be no mail despatched in August. After this alteration there is every reason to believe that the service will work with the utmost regularity. The gain of a fortnight to the Company will not be without its good effects, as it will enable Captain Benson to mature his arrangements in many ways, and will not cause any great public inconvenience.
