The chief busiuess transacted was the appointment of the following gentlemeu as a committee to collect funds towards the building of a synagogue: —Messrs. H. Marks, F. W. Isaacs,- J. Hoi man, Hirsch, H. Cohen, A. Benjamin, andß. Marks. Messrs. H. Marks, Isaacs, and Solomon were also appointed trustees of the reserve granted by the Government. The Southland Times of the 4th inst., sa y S : — We understand that the roads in the couutry are in a fearful state; the rivers flooded, snow deep, and severe weather being experienced. The Wakatip coach on its last journey from Invercargill could not reach its destination, owing to the flooded state of the rivers, and the mails were forwarded by horse-express ; the same was experienced in the down mail, — the mailman first had to abandon the coach, and put the mails on horseback, and afterwards to walk a portion of the road to towu.
