OTAGO
The carriers' strike still continues, and is sadly deranging trade. Stringent necessity will no doubt soon interpose in the dispute. "What must be done, Sir, will be done, Sir," said Dr Johnson; and no doubt before many days are over one side or the other will have to give way. —Since the above was written, the contest seeras likely to be euded by the carriers taking out the loading on drays until free of the bars. A uuited carrying company has also been formed. There was a strong westerly gale on Saturday, aud on Monday and Tuesday it rained and hailed violently at intervals, while the wind at night blew a perfect hurricane. — Otago Neios Zetter. May 5.
