SOUTHLAND.
A steady accession of population is taking place upon the Riverton goldfield. It is becoming every day more apparent that an immense tract of auriferous country has been discovered. At the Lake Wakatip quartz reefs have been discovered, and powerful companies formed for their effectual working. As most of our readers will be aware, this brauch of gold mining is the most permanently remunerative. With reference to another branch of mining industry the " Wakatip Mail" of the 13th inst. says: — " Somefivsfc-class specimens from the Moke Creek Copper Lode have, we- are giveu to understand, been sent to England; and that the lode is rich we can scarcely doubt, the ore found from time to time being so exceedingly good." — S. Times.
