RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

This Day. [Before J. Poyntek, Esq., E. M.] Lloyd v. Hare. — Claim, 355.; 255. for board and lodging, and 10s. the value of a bed destroyed by defendant. Judgment for plaintiff for the ainonnt claimed. C. Watkinsv.- James Blanche. — This was a charge of assault. Defendant did not appear, and the Magistrate ordered that a warrant should be issued. John Barrett y. George Dickens. — Another assault case. Neither party answering to his name a warrant was issued for defendant, the causes to come on at 3 p.m. , The. defendant on being brought up, stated that he had given complainant to settle the case, and the complainant not appearing, he was discharged. Sheep. lnspector v. Robinson and Renwick, for introducing 500 sheep into the province, from Marlborough, without inspector's certificate. The offence was admitted, and defendants were fined £5 10s. The Nelson" Atjtizan's Mutual Improvement Association will hold a meeting this evening, in the room of the Young Men's Christian Association. It is hoped that the meeting will be well attended by the young men of Nelson. Nelson Institute Exhibition. — The management have added a new attraction to the Exhibition, in the shape of the magic lantern, which is likely to find favor with the younger portion of the visitors. The attempt'to furnish amusement has been most successful, and many persons will be sorry to learn that this is the last week the Exhibition will remain open. Manawatu Small Farm Association. — Some time since "we noticed the progress of this association. Its objects are to enable persons to obtain farms upon easy terms. It is to continue for 40 months, commencing in May next, each shareholder paying 10s, per month, besides an entrance fee of 2s. 6d., and to be entitled at the expiration of that period to a rural section of 40; acres, and a town section of a quarter acre, the right of selection to be determined by ballot ; no person allowed to take more than five shares, and every person's land to be occupied in some manner. 1850 shares have already been taken up at Wellington and the Hutt. -The land to be divided among the members of the association consists of portion of a very fertile tract of- country, lying between the

Rangitikei and Manawatu rivers, of 300,000 acres in extent. Negotiations are in progress to purchase it- from the natives, who are willing to dispose of it, as the only means of settling' the disputes concerning its ownership.
