We have telegraphic intelligence from Sydney by the way of Melbourne, we extract the following : — Sydney, March 17. Hickey won the principal prize at the regatta. The yacht race won by Ella. The Garibaldi brings five hundred tons Chilian iiour. The Victor, for Melbourne, was wrecked off Newcastle. March 19. A murder was committed on Saturday night, at about a quarter past ten, by a man named Green, who was at the time under the influence of liquor-. At the above hour Green met a young man named Shearer and his wife, at Rushcutters' Bay, not far beyond Wooloomooloo, on the road to the South Head, and used some indecent expression towards the young woman, which was resented by her husband. Green on being remonstrated with is said to have assaulted Shearer, and a scuffle ensued, in which Green is supposed to have got the worst of it. Shearer and his wife then proceeded on their way ; but Green followed them, and coming upon Shearer from behind with an open knife, lie cut the throat of the latter. The unfortunate man had only been married ten months. His wife tried in vain to stanch the blood from the wound, and he died shortly after his arrival _t the Sydney Infirmary, to which place he was removed as spaedily as possible. The murderer was apprehended at noon yesterday, and conveyed to Darlinghurst Prison. To-day an inquest was held on the body, and a verdict of "Wilful murder" found against Green, who was committed to take his tiial upon the croner's warrant.

The arguments in Bertrand's case were concluded to-day, when the judges decided by a majority of two to one to grant him a new trial, which will take place in May. Dunn was hanged to-day ; he died very penitent, and without a struggle. March 20. The man Green was brought up at the Water Police Court to-day, and fully committed for trial, for the murder of the man Shearer, wnose throat he cut on Saturday night. He will be tried at the present -assizes. The Juverna, tea laden, from China, bound to Sydney, has been wrecked. She was insured here for £21,000. 7.20 : Green was arraigned at the Criminal Court this afternoon. He asked to be allowed counsel, but was refused. He was, however, allowed till tomorrow morning to procure one.
