1 ANOTHER CASE REPORTED . J NEW SERUM TESTS. PROVING EFFICACIOUS. (Received 1.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Another case of plague is reported .-at Alexandria, The authorities are using a new plague serum, the discovery of a Sydney doctor, which has proved highly successful. | Out of thirteen cases treated only one death has occurred. —A. and N.Z. The following cable message was despatched from London on March 27: '' The injection of anti-penumonic serum," if made early enough, would re- ( -.suit in the saving of practically every pneumonia patient," declared Dr. Cowan Guthrie, in a speech at the Royal Colonial Institute on the advance of medical science throughout the Empire. He specifically referred to Australian discoveries, mentioning that a Sydney doctor was the first to use Koch's tubercular treatment on scientific lines, and that an* Australian doctor discovered the treatment of exophthalnnc goitre by surgical removal of a small portion of the thyroid gland.
