WHANGAREL GOLF CLUB.

J OPENING OF SEASON. The official opening of the Whangarei Golf Club's 1922 season took place on Saturday afternoon. The president, Mr L. Cooper, in his opening address expressed pleasure ct seeing s» many members present and extended a. cordial welcome to the many visitors who had come out for the opening day. Speaking of the links, he stated that they were in a better condition than, they had ever been before, owing principally to the efforts of Mr C. W. Bisset, enptain of the club, and those who had assisted him. Members wouli notice that since the close of last season considerable improvements had been mcvle to the pavilion, and a, new horse mower had been purchased. At the president's request Mjs Cooper then drove the first ball.. well :in>l truly, and the links were enthusiastically declared open for play, amid applause. Unfortunately the weather was not on its best behaviour and most of the players left earlier than usual on account of the rain, but not (until they had been regaled by a most sumptuous afternoon tea provided by tW ! ladies. About twenty sets of mixed foursomes set out, and the following results are taken from the cards handed in:— Miss Bissct and C. W. Bisset 63, Miss Teat and A. D. Jack 69, Mrs arid Mr W.
