CIVIL SERVICE SALARIES.
RETRENCHMENT SUGGESTION,
(Special to "Northern Advocate.") WELLINGTON, This Day.
The Hon. J. A. Haman in the Hoiuse yesterday drew attention .to the big increase, made in the salaries of senior officers of the Civil Service since 1914. Officers had risen from £1000 to £1250, £600 to £1000, and so forth. He doubtod if these big salaries were justified, even after the percentage reduction proposed in the Retrenchment Bill had been made. Air 'Massey replied that the increases were made according to scale. If members thought the proposed reductions were not sufficient he was quite willing to gu further, but he must ;tsk to treat their own salaries in just the same way.
