SHELLS THAT THROW LIGHT.

A young soldier in the Danish Artillery has, it is said, made an interesting invention, which was tested recently. The invention consists of an apparatus for throwing light shells to a height of about one thousand feet. When they reach this altitude the shells burst and cast a bright light on the country for a period of about two minutes. The projecting apparatus weighs about thirty-five pounds, and the shells less than a pound each. The apparatus can be placed in a protected trench, so that there is little chance of its being destroyed in battle.
