Hockey Association
At a meeting of the Whangarei Hockey Association there were present Messrs Carruth (chairman), Ansell, Paine, Hounsell, Baddeley, Hayward and Wilkinson.
The protest brought by the Pirates against the win registered against that flub by Tamahana was not allowed. ll vvas decided to meet the out-of-"^■-'•"pocket, expenses of referees, and also to make a donation to the working expenses of the Referees' Association. The secretary was directed to write to the different clubs that the Referees' Association requests each club, whether at home or away, to supply a ball of registered size and painted white for each match. Attention was drawn to the fact that many sticks now being used are *-' not of regulaticn size. Square ended sticks and those bound near the end with material and incapable of being passed through a two-inch ring can at any time be objected to and their use stopped. (Rules of Hockey, 16). Mr Ansell's report on the recent sports meeting showed a credit of £15 15s. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Ansell and the sports committee. It was decided that Ruakaka and Mangapai Clubs play three matches at intervals of a fortnight, the winners to-take part in the final for the shield. The ladies' clubs are to be informed that entries for the ladies' competition close on Saturday, and that the draw for the first round will take place at next Tuesday's meeting of the Association.
It was decided to endeavor to send a team to Auckland at the end of July to compete for the White Horse Cup. Club members are to be asked to arrange for their holidays at that time. A rep. match between the Harbor Division and Saturday Central will be played on June 2S. Selectors of the Harbor team, Messrs J. Millar (Mangapai) and F. Murdoch (Ruakaka) ; for the town team, club captains and a member of the Referees' Association. Three Hikurangi players were passed as permission players for Pirates. After the 16th inst. no further permits will be granted (Rule 28). Six new players were passed for United.
■> On Saturday Ngapuhi will play Grahamtown at Whangarei. Referees will in future decline to allow players to take part in a match unless clad in their club uniform.
