Eleven o'clock licenses wore renewed throughout the district. The chairman of the Committoo read the poliue report, which stated that on the whole the licensed houses were well conducted. One licensee had been proseouted during tho year for supplyig an already-in-toxicated persou with liquor. Tlio offendor had been absent at the time, but the person who served the liquor and ,tho licensoe had both been nued but the license was not endorsed, There had been no alterations to licensed promises. The Royal Hotel, which was partially destroyed by fire labt year, had been thoroughly renovatd.and the rooms aud passages improved. During 1908 there were 309 drunkards convicted, aud in 190!), 355, including 328 men aud 27 women. Sub-Inspector OD'onovan, who'ivproseuted tho police, said that 6!) of tliepe had been arrested after 10 o'clock, aud that the police would like a note to be made of this when considerig the 10 o'olook licence, The police during the coming year ►would pay special attention to the way the hotels were couduoted, with tho idea of having the conduct of the hotols brought un to a uniform standard.
