MANAWATU DRAINAGE BOARD.
Tho Mmawitu Drainage Board held their-ordinary monthly meeting yeaterday. Tboso present were Messrs Sanson (chairman), Promo, Yosa, O'Loughlin, and Ue!f. A communication was received from Mrs C. E. White, who requested that a drain on Giilespie'a road should be eloanacl out. —The Engineer was instructed to carry out the work. Mr lnnes wroto in reforenco to Maori land taken under the 'Public Works Act for drainago purposes. It was alleged that men engaged on the work had twice been stopped by the Maoris owing to the fact that no compensation had been paid.—The Engineer reported that he had sent tho men back to the work, and it was decided to settle tho claim for compensation on a reasonable basis. It was p.lbo decided that tho Chairman should hand Mr Innei' letter to tho Board's solicitor. It was resolved to notify Mr Eiddiford that ho had constructed a drain without the consent of the Board, and farther that he was' Hallo to a penalty for so <*°*eg ■-
