A peculiar assault was reported her-' tliis afaternoon. A young girl wlio i> employed ns n clerk in a local commission audit’s office, returned to the of lice at 2 (/’clock, ami on:unlocking the* door was imnmdiately attacked. A towel placed over her head prevented hoi seeing her assailant, and her mouth was gagged with a handkerchief, and her hands were then tied together, the intruder then left. Nothing is missing from the office—the cash box on the table being untouched. The girl’s struggles gave tin* alarm to the people next door, and mi her being released she immediately fainted, hut soon recovered. She was not otherwise miertcred with, and the motive for the assault is a mystery.
