WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.

Ta» Wanganui Education Hoard held Its monthly meeting on Wednesday night.. Mr Fred Pirani presided, the following also being present: Messrs Christie, Hemming way, .Mclntyre, Bryant, Broad, Joblin, Collins, and Eraser. Mr Sanson waited on the Board in reference to the necessity for an addition to the Ohakea School, for which £IOO had been subscribed locally.-—lt was decided to take steps to get. a grant for the work, and for an extension of the .school grounds. Mr Joblin reported that the Hint family, at Moawhango, had given two acres of valuable land as a site for a school, and a vote of thanks was accorded them. Several applications for painting schools were deferred on the ground that at present it was only advisable to paint new work. The foreman is to report on the efficiency of the water service at the College street School, and application is to be made for a grant for an additional room for hO pupils.—The chairman pointed out, that the committee’s letter stated the accommodation was 182 short, but it was based on the roll number and a space of 12ft per pupil; whereas, wisely or not, the Department bused applications on the roll number and a floor space of 10ft per pupil. Grants were offered: To Kairanga. £1 for £1 up to £3 lO.s, for fencing; Makohino Valley, cost of material for fencing; £1 for £1 up to £ls for repairs to i’arawanui residence.; Mangarimu nnd Newbury, tanks; Mr Bryant’s action in regard to the tank at Kelvin Grove, was approved. 11 eld over. —Amongst a. number of matters held over were: Question of remuneration to -Apiti technical director; contributions from Foxion for teacher’s residence (referred to Mr Eraser). A letter of thanks from Mr 0. Hale, of Palmerston, for services rendered to Ins daughter by Dr. Patfrton, and teachers of the Terrace End School was received, and ordered to be sent to the Minister. On the recommendation of the Rector (Mr Vernon), it was decided to a.sk the Minister to extend the National Scholarship of Charles Barraelough, at the Palmerston High School. A vote of appreciation was passed for the bequest of £2OOO from the late Miss Alexander for Technical College, scholarships, and the 1 utilising of the gift was referred, to a committee. Resignations accepted: Mr K. W. Burlev, Feliding; Mr T. C. Currie, Konmko; Mr C. J, Lyne, Taikoroa.
