Mr Hughes, the Federal Prime Minister, in his speech, referred to the lies circulated during the last conscription campaign, and warned everyone that if, during the coming campaign, they licit they did so at their own peril. Any statement circulated to mislead the electors must cither ho proved oi- the person making it would be punished quickly and suddenly. One lie only, and the utterer would go quickly out of the campaign.
