(Auckland Star Correspondent.) j At the close of the year 1909 the back-block settlers were pleased to know that Parliament had voted ! large sums of- money for improve- j ments to certain roads, but a certain time has elapsed since the votes were made and no works have yet been started, and many of the settlers are beginning to doubt that the money will be expended. Considering how recently this land has been opened up the product is excellent, and there is every probability of its being doubled in a very short time. All through this fertile block feed is plentiful, and settlers are securing the necessary stock: to keep it down. Nearly all the settlers who have burned their fallen bush have secured good burns, and this, with the recent rains, means early grass and rape crops, which will considerably add to the settlers' output next season. In the Kaikeke the important question of dairying is being discussed, atid those interested in the dairy company .
