LARGE FIRE AT AUCKLAND.

. ' Foxtok, Dec. 20. Apenous fire broke out** on« o'olock this morning, when Mr T. P. Williams' store was burned to the ground and all the stock destroyed. The stock is estimated at over £2000. The building was a very, old one. and insured for £250. The origin of the fire is, a complete mystery. George ■ Williams, the proprietor's brother; sleops on the premises, and when he retired at eleven last nicht everything was safe. The fire was no sooner observed than the whole building was a mass of flames, preventing anyone approaching it. Only a 'few pounds of tobaoco was saved. The Primitive Methodist Church, on the north side, and the old Custom house, on the south side, were, saved with difficulty, thero being, fortunately, no wind at the time. The correct insurances are •— South British £500, National £1250 of which £500 re-insured m the Scottish Imperial and £250 m the United, making the nett loss of the National Company £500. c *
