TOLLS AND ELECTIONS.
Sir, — In your issue of the 21st I noticed the " Speaker of the Renwick Parliament '" is again affected by that incurable disease cizcoethes scribendi. Surely your Borough Council and our Koad Board must now place themselves under the tuition arid guidance of this great litminary, who so jauntily tells us what to do, and how to do it. But from a Spring Creek p^oint of view his long effusion seems to have been written for the purpose of the last paragraph, . in which he seems to fancy he has caught the "weasel asleep "; but perhaps it may he well to ask him what he makes of the term • ' first " in Subsection 1 of Clause 103, referred to by him, as lam informed the tolls at Gouland's Perry has been payable and paid some 15 or 16 years. Must our Board go back to that period and advertise ? Perhaps T. O'Sullivan will kindly tell them how to do this. Of Subsection 2, Clause 103, and Clause 106, hadT. O'S. applied to the Secretary of the Spring Creek Road Board for information, it might have prevented the unjust implication he has allowed himself to indulge in ; which reminds me of the old adage of "living in glass houses," and I would here beg to solicit his opinion on Clause 12, of the Roads Act 1872 Amendment Act 1875, in reference to the election by his own Board on the 7th day, of July ; and also where he gets the aiithority for levying a rate for twelve months, three months of which they had already levied, and collected. Perhaps, with his usual courtesy and your permission, the great man may condescend to answer these Queries. Spring Creek, July 26.
