KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tcesday, Jan. 19. Present: The Mayor, Councillors Newiham, Oram, Dudley, Kerr, and Birch, The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Copies of outward correspondence were read. His Excellency the Governor's reply to the address presented by the Council was laid upon the table. The Public Works Committee reported that they had cawed the well in Cookson streeUo be repaired, in accordance with the Council's instructions. The following accounts were then passed, and ordered to be paid:—Kngrossing address, £1 Is; repairs to bridge, £1 5s ; Birch and Co,, £2 3s Bd. The Mayor said that his Excellency the Governor, on leaving the town, desired him to express to the Council, and through them to the people of Kaiapoi, his thanks for the manner in which he had been received, A list of defaulting ratepayers was laid on the table, and after some discussion, it was referred to a committee,consisting of Councillore Kerr and Birch, to report at the next meet-
ing, and in the meantime; to have power to order Bummary proceedings where they see fit. ■ ■'; ■"''■' ''
An extension of time was'granted to the Fire Prevention committee, also to that appointed to correspond with the Government on the bridge question. Councillor moved that a sum not exceeding £lO be granted to the committee for his rxcllency's reception towards the expense incurred. Councillor Kerr seconded the motion, which was withdrawn on Councillor Bird drawing attention to the fact that previous notice should have been given, A vote of thanks was passed to the Mayor and the Reception committee for the manner in which the Governor's reception had been carried out.
A vote of thanks was passed to all who hud assisted in the eretion of the triumphal arch.
