TO THE EDITOR OP TIIB LTTTELTON TIMES. Sir,—You will oblige by inserting the underneath remarks, a 9 they may be the means of altering, for tlie use of the public, what I consider a blunder by some one in office, When a ship is signalled, there is a red flag put at the mast head with ball at the yard arm, shewing the direction the ship is coming from. A steamer, let us say, is signalled at the Bame time white flag at mast head, with ball at yard arm. When either of the above enters the heads one ball is hauled down, and, therefore, any person in town must judge which is insiJe the heads,
1 think you will agree with me that if the flag and ball were both on the yard arm, when the ball was hauled down, those in terested would be able to tell whether a ship or steamer was really inside the heads,
