This, according ■to " Cocker," number of dogs in the province. ! Can any one who walks the streets of our towns and sees the army pf curs who lire and lore and fight arid fed therein; believe that this calculation is anywhere near .the, ipark?r But if any of your readers doubt the evidence of bis eyes, let him; do .what t am often forced to do, and walk the town by night; he will then be amply convinced, by the dismal din. which makes night hideous, that there must be ten times three thousand dogs within hail of Cathedral square. , Onceiipon a time I used to notice that , the police', enforced',' the penalty upon ownersof unregistered curs; but that good practice seems] tb have been given up long ago, and there has since been a perceptible increase in the number of the brutes. . i I have been: credibly , infortned that an enterprising citizen offered some time since to give the Government £3OOO a-year to farm •this tax. If this, is true, why are the 3000 ■ Unregistered dogs permitted to run at large, and are the police ? ; Your obedient servant, /GROWLER, ,
