KAIAPOI MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

Tuesday, Juke 11. The Council met at the usual hour, the following members being present -. J. C. Porter (chairman), A. A. Dobbs, 6. F. Hewlings, M. Hall, E. G. Kerr, B. Ellis, J. Henwood, and C. Dudley. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.

The following correspondence was read : Letter from the Provincial Secretary, acknowledging receipt of resolutions levying a rate of one shilling in the pound, and stating that the same should be forthwith proclaimed, his Honor the Superintendent having sanctioned it,

Letter from Matheson's Agency, having reference to the improvements required to be made by them to the river reserves in their occupation, and stating that the lease held by them named £25 as the sum to be thuß expended, which they had more than done, the amount of their present improvements having cost £45. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Dobbs, seconded by Dr Dudley, that the Council see no reason why they should depart from the regulations adopted for the river reserves, and require that Matheson's Agency should comply with the same, the tramway not being recognised as part of the stipulated improvements, but simply for their own convenience.

The fortnightly balance sheet was Jnext submitted, shewing the items to be : Balance after last sitting, £132 17s 8d; rent of bridge, £l6 10s 9d; total credit, £149 8s sd. Amounts due—Pay-sheet, £lll3s 3d; W.Harris, for carting, £3 19s4d; R. Hunter, £5 14s; total, £2l6s 7d, leaving anett available balance of £l2B Is lOd.

On the motion of Dr Dudley, seconded by Mr Kerr, the clerk was ordered to write to the Provincial Secretary, requesting the Government to remit the balance of the annual grant, the same being now due.

Dr Dudley called attentiou to the existence of a nuisance in the yard attached to the Kaikaiuui Hotel. The clerk was ordered to see to the same being removed at once. It was resolved that half the rate recently levied be collected before the Ist of August, and that the clerk obtain the necessary rate books at once.

I Several errors in the lease executed between the Council and Mr K. Woodford, for certain reserves in Charles street, wore altered by consent of the Council. Mr Kerr, on behalf of the Koad Committee, asked for an extension of time until next sitting, in which to bring forward their report, as several of the members had been unavoidably absent during the past week. The necessary extension was granted. On the motion of Mr Hewlinga, it was resolved that the footpath in Peraki street should be shingled. The following tenders for metalling Jones street were next considered.— ■ John Armstrong ... Is per yard. Belcher and Fairweather 3s ~ The first-named tender was accepted. Certain repairs were ordered to be made to the tap of the artesian well in Peraki street, after which the Council adjourned.
