Ditchburn, Ballarat; W. Nixon, Ballarat, •This Company has bc v en for some months working the Coal Measures on the River Grey, Province of Nelson, New Zealand under a lease from the Government of twentyone years (renewable at the end of that period for an equal term) of 1280 acres of Mineral Land at a merely nominal rental'; the lease including the key to the working of the well-known Brunner Seam. The coal is of the richest bituminous quality (for analysis, as contrasted with the Newcastle coal, see annexed table No. 1.) It has been proved by repeated trials to excel the best New South Wales coal for steam and other industrial purposes, and its coking qualities are equal to those of the best English coal. It is of ready and inexpensive access, cropping out on the banks of the Grey in a seam fifteen feet thick, and has a direct water-carriage from the mouth of the mine to the shipping place at Cobden. The report of the Government Colliery Engineer Bhews a field so extensive as to admit of working for centuries. The mine has been opened and driven into one hundred and eighty yards, with two levelß,oneat eight, the other twenty feet, above high water mark, thus securing a natural drainage over three-fourths of the area under lease, and enabling the delivery of the coal in the barges, or on to the tramway, direct from the miners' tracks without the use of steam power. For further particulars see prospectus. Application for shares can be made to the Company's Manager, Grey River. Prospectuses can be obtained at the office of the Lyttelton Times, H.
