The Auckland, Captain Ponsonby, arrived from Dunedin and Bluff, yesterday at 2. •'Left Dunedin on the previous day, at half-past six p.m. Experienced moderate weather from N.W"., although rather squally at times, up to 1 a.m. on Friday morning, when the barometer rising and falling rapidly up to 4 o'clock, indicated a gale, which came on strong from S.E. at 8 a.m. Left for Wellington, Manukau, and intermediate ports at half-past 5 o'clock yesterday.
Violkht Gale.—Yesterday morning, at seven, a strong breeze from the N.W. came in, followed by a stul more violent gale from the B.W. It increased up to 11 o'clock, at which time it blew a perfect hurricane—one of the old-fashioned sou'westers. Many of the vessels in harbour dragged their anchors, but we have not heard of any serious damage being done. At half-past 2 the gale had somewhat abated, when communication was once more established with the shipping. At the time of the arrival of the Auckland, the watermen asked as much as 10s. each to take passengers off.
The steamer Tarabtta is detained till this day at 11, in consequence of not been able to discharge her inward cargo.
The Babquis Cbishha sailed yesterday, at 6.30 p.m., for Hobart Town.
