PROCLAMAION OF THE WEST COAST GOLDFIELD.

The Gazette of Thursday contains the following:— " Whereas by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled The Gold Fields Act, 1862, it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor, from time to time, by proclamation, to constitute and appoint any portion of the colony to be a goldfleld, under the provisions of the said Act, and the limits of such goldfleld from time to time to alter as occasion may require: .. . A " And whereas by the said Act it is provided, that it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council, under his hand and the public seal of the colony, from time to time to delegate to the Superintendent of any province, or to" such other person as the Governor may deem fit, all or any of the powers vested in the Governor or the Governor in Council, by the said Act except the powers conferred by sections 19, 31, 32,33, and 61 thereof, subject or not subject t« any limitation or restrictions as he may think fit. " And whereas by virtue of a commission, bearing date the sixteenth day of August, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and sixtyfour given under the hand of his Excellency Sir George Grey, K.C.8., at the Government House at Auckland, and under the public seal of the colony, his Excellency Sir George Grey, K.C.8., the Governor as aforesaid of the said eolony, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council thereof, and in exercise of the power and authority for that purpose in him vested, did delegate, absolutely and without restriction, unto Samuel Bealey, Esq., as Superintendent of the province of Canterbury, all the powers vested in him tinder or by virtue of The Goldfields Act, 1862, except the powers contained in sections 19, 31,32,33, and 61 of the said Act, to have, hold, and exercise, within the province of Canterbury, the said powers by the said commission given. . ■ . " Now, therefore, I Samuel Bealey, Superintendent of the province of Canterbury, do hereby, in pursuance of the power and authority so vested in me as aforesaid, proclaim that part of the province of Canterbury bounded on the north by the River Grey, and the southern boundary of the province of Nelson; on the west by the sea; on the south by the Kiver Wanganui and a line drawn from its source to the nearest summit of the snowy range; on the east by the summits of the dividing range, or Southern Alps, to be a Goldfleld within the meaning of the Act, to he called "The West Canterbury Goldfleld.
