ARRIVAL OF THE SALMON OVA IN MELBOURNE.

We are favoured by Mr. Morton Alport with the following at an early hour last evening :— " The Norfolk arrived in Hobson's Bay on Friday night. The ice house was opened for the first time yesterday morning, when it did not appear that eight to ten tons of the ice had melted. There is therefore abundance left to place 011 board the Victoria with the ova boxes. The ova in the box that was opened were alive and healthy, and not above one in ten had died. " The Victoria will Hkely leave to-day or to-morrow and may be looked for at Hobart Town on Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon." This is beyond all question one of the most important pieces of intelligence that has readied the colony for some time past. It is not ouly a further illustration of the triumphs of modern science, but it carries with it the prospect of more

benefit to Tasmania than can well be estimated. The Norfolk has been 85 days out, and supposing the Victoria to bo here on Wednesday, the ova will be delivered in Hobart Town on the ninetieth day from the date of its leaving London. The breeding ponds are all ready, and we may, we suppose, congratulate ourselves, the whole colony, and Mr. Youl this time on a complete success. In the meantime all await the arrival of the Victoria with intense anxiety.—Hobart Town Mercury, April 15.
