Mr. Robert Latter, after proposing Mr. Hugh Percy Murray-Aynsley to be one of the representatives for Lyttelton, spoke at length on the desirability of the constituency returning the best men to look after the interests of our port town and the province generally. Mr. Wm. Rayner briefly seconded the nomination of Mr. Aynsley. Mr. Thos. Merson proposed Mr. Edward Allan Hargreaves as a fit and proper representative for Lyttelton. Mr. David Davis briefly seconded the proposition. The Returning Officer called for a show of hands, and declared the majority to be in favor of Mr. Hargreaves. Mr. Aynsley demanded a poll. The Returning Officer stated that the poll would commence at nine o'clock iu the morning (this day), and close at four. The official declaration would be made at five o'clock.
