OTAGO.
We have received our usual files of Otago papers up to May 25. From the ' Daily Times' we make the following extracts :— Provincial Council Elections.—The followinggentlemen are duly elected to represent the city of Dunedin, in the Provincial Council of the Province of Otago :—Thomas Dick, Win. Hunter Reynolds, Thomas Birch, Edward Bowes Cargill, Frederick Joseph Moss, James Kilgour, and James Paterson. We understand that already a considerable number of applications have been made to the Government by persons desiring to volunteer for the occupation of the land at Taranaki, under the of the Colonial Secretary's communication. In the absence of fuller details of the proposed arrangements for this semi-military settlement, nothing definite can be done, but full information is expected to be brought by the next steamer. THE ESCORT. The gold escort arrived at the Treasury yesterday evening, with the following amounts: — oz. dwts.
