v christchuhcji. i Mr. W. D. Barnard reports the salo, on Saturday last, of 7 thoroughbred niares, at prices varying from £33 to •§52 10s., averaging £42 10s. Also, 6 thoroughbred 2 year old colts and Mies, prices from' £16 to £30, avornging £23 10s. 1 bay golding, £3110s. 2 ponies, £20 and £28 respectively. OTAGO. ■' Business has opened rather dull this week, and there is very little of interest to report. The town continues full of life with new arrivals. , Until the next steamer's arrival from Melbourne there is not likely to be much activity. Should the news by next mail be warlike, we may expect some speculation in articles most likely to be affected. There is free enquiry for bulk and bottled beers, and parcels near at hand would realise full rates. There is also an improved demand for twist tobacco.
