POST OFFICE NOTICE.

.. Mails per Airedale for the Northern ports of New . Zealand will close at Lyttelton at 12 noon, and at Christ- * church at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday the 22nd instant. .late Letters can be posted by affixing an additional ' sixpenny postage stamp upon each letter until 10.30 a.m. ■ at Christchurch, and until 12.30 p.m. at Lyttelton.

From and after the ; 26th instant, the Overland Mail for _ Timaru will close at Christehurch every Wednesday at , 3-30 p.m. At the same time a Mail will be despatched ."'from Christchurch for the Mackenzie Plains; this Mail ' will leave Timaru on Saturday, the Ist day of March next, ' and in future Mails for these plains will be made up at Timaru on, every succeeding alternate Saturday. The mail contractor for the South road will, on and after the 27th inst., leave Christchurch at 6 a.m. on every Thursday i morning, and will be only iwo days on the road to Timaru.

Notice is hereby riven, that it is intended from and , after the Ist of ApriTnexti that all letters shall be prepaid ' with stamps only, and any letter upon which postage of ' single rate shall not have been so prepaid transmitted to and opened at the chief Post office, Lyttelton, for the purpose of being returned to the sender. Eegistered Letters to be forwarded by mails for places " out of the Province of Canterbury, must be posted one hour prior to the closing of such mails. Letters by the late mails cannot be registered.
