SPORTING INTELLIGENCE.

The Canterbury Jockey Club held its annual general meeting on Saturday last, when several new members were elected, and the following committee appointed for the ensuing year:— I. T. Cookson, President. A, R. Creyke, Hon. Sec. and Treasurer. Captain Westenra J. Shand, T. W. White, G. Lee, J. C. Watts Russell, J. C. Wilson, G. D. Lockhart, R. Wilkin, E. J. Wakefield, H. P. Lance, W. Thomson, W. H. Harris, C. G. Hodgson, W. R. Cator. The Challenge Cup has been claimed by Mr. H. P. Lance, and will therefore have to be competed for at the ensuing races. It was settled that the Canterbury Races for 1861 should come off on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the sth, 6th, and 7th February. Entries for the Maiden Plate were opened as follows:— Mr. H. Stafford names Mr. Redwood's eh. f. Wtiiraea, 3 years, by Sir Hercules out of Flora Mclvor. Mr. W. K. Macdonald's b.c. 3 years, by Sleight-of-hand out of Jessie. Mr. 0. Redwood's b.c. or gel. 3 years, by Sir Hercules out of Rosebud. Mr. E. J. Wakefield's b.m. Royal Miss, 5 years, by Sir Hercules out of Victoria. Mr. Lance's br.c. by II Barbiisre out of Vesta. Nominations for the Peer Cup were reported to the Secretary to have been taken by the following gentlemen :-—E. J. Wakefield 3, R. Parkerson 1 T. W. White 2, H. P. Lance 2, A. R. Crevko 2 J. C. Wilson 1, G. & H. Lee 2.
