" [^LECTORS.— To return thanks for supJlj port in the late election would indeed be supererogatory —since support there was none. The final close of the poll in the entire absence of even one vote warrants the assertion. Nor, in the exercise of our mutual independence, as the cause of this, can I complain. The initiation of any system must have a fair trial, before success can be hoped for. However, in reference to the extraordinary result of Saturday's polling, I am bound to assure you that, under ordinary circumstances, I should justly have considered the nt> vote as an im-. plied want of confidence, ahcL a reason quite sufficient in itself to prevent me from again coming forward. Yet, knowing otherwise, I can but have every confidence and no hesitation in assuring you that it is my resolve to do so on a future occasion ; when I trust for more success, as I have no doubt of the sincerity of my intentions. I need not doubt yours. I cannot but feel satisfied at the manner in which the late election wa3 conducted generally; but, especially so, when.l can literally and truly say that, on that occasion, I acted in every respect as I would l;ke to be done unto, but which I need not expect. Electors, with every wish at heart to merit your future confidence, and to grow in your good opinion, and with the firm belief that we shall improve on acquaintance, I remain, gentlemen, Very faithfully yours, WESTBY H. PERCIVAL. Nov. 30,1859. COTTAGE TO LET. A Comfortable Two-Roomed Cottage, with Garden. Rent, 12s. per week. Apply to H. E. ALPORT, Market Place, Christchurch.
