MANGAPEHI.

Own Correspondent. At a meeting of the sports committee, held on Friday evening last, Mr J. Gray presiding, final touches were given to the arrangements for the sports on March 30th. It was decided to hold a social on Friday, 22nd ins)., with the object of raising funds. A dance will also be held on the evening of the sports, as a fitting end to the day's amusement. Recognition of affiliation with the Auckland Union was received, and Messrs H. Johnson and B. W. Hayson were appointed delegates to the meeting of the union on Friday next. On Sunday last the Parekura elven journeyed to Mangapehi on trucks and played a match with the local club. The day was showery, and the wicket essentially that of the bowler, and so small- scores were the order of the day. The visitors were entertained at dinner at Mr Butler's boarding house, and returned by trucks in the evening. The match resulted in a win for Mangapehi by five wickets. In the first innings the bush team was disposed of for an unusually small total, viz.. 15. McCracken took four wickets for 7 runs, and Hayson six for 7in this innings. The scores were: —Parekura: First innings, 15; second innings: fi7 (Smythe 14, Taylor 18, Gilbert 10, Dempsey 11). Mangapehi: First innings, 53 (McCracken 14, Goodall 14 not out); second innings, 4 for 32 (Hill 16). Bowling for Parekura, Giblert secured S wickets, Smythe 3, Taylor 2; for Mangapehi McCracken took 7, Hayson S, Guthrie 4, Ellis 1. A return match at Parekura is to be played in a couple of weeks.
