Own Correspondent. The weather is causing anxiety amongst settlers in this district. Some of them having late crops cannot get them save:! during the wet. The weather has been so broken that the stuff is kept continually damp, and unless a change in the elements is near at hand, fears are entertained that much of the labour and expense alreauy entailed will be wasted. The Faemako school annual picnic was held last week, and brought together a large gathering of old and voung people. The weather was the only point in doubt, and many were the surmises as to what it would be. Happily, the day was all that could be desired. The young ones indulged in games, races, walks, etc., and the older folks enjoyed a social chat to gether. The committee had the arrangemets well in hand, and provided tea for all, and, as the everybody carried a well-filled basket, a hearty lunch, and, later on, tea, was partaken of. The following are the results of the races:—Boys' race, W. McDonald 1, A. McDonald 2, Tau Puia 3. Girls' race: F. Slines 1, I. Churcher 2, I. Tarrant 3. Boys' under 14: J. Jordan 1, A. McDonald 2, A.
