ARARATA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

FOR THE FRONT

Tha Public Hall was again the scene of a gathering on Tuesday evening to bid farewell to Trooper J. B'arkla, of the N.Z.M.R., who has volunteered for the front and who is shortly leaving New Zealand. Although Ararata is only a small community, it has sent its quota of young men to join the gallant band who are bravely fighting for the cause ©f honesty and upright dealing. In making the presentation of a silver wristlet watch toTrooper Barkla, Mr Parfitt, who spoke on behalf of the subscribers and friends, said that he had known Trooper Barkla several years, and had always found him of good sterling worth and full of courage and determination. He wished Trooper Barkla all good luck and trusted he would be spared to return in safety to his wife and friends. Trooper Barkla suitably responded, and the proceedings terminated with the singing of "Aukl Lang Syne" and the National Anthem. This has just now a special significance for all true Britons, and it is hoped that we shall soon have the much desired news of His Majesty's complete recovery from his accident.
