A DOUBLE EXPLOSION.

CHRISTCHURCH,, Oct. 14. A double explosion occurred at about 7.40 this morning in the rooms of Mr F. C. A'Court, a dentist. The floor of the dentist's room was blown clean through, and the ceiling of Simpson and Williams' stationery ' premises underneath was shattered. The cause of the explosions is said to have been due to the fact that a gas ring may have been left burning, and. by 6ome means two cylinders of nitrous oxide gas became ignited, both being blown to pieces. The floor of the lower premises, books, and stationery suffered slight damage. Mr A'Court's stock was insured in the State Fjre Office for £260; the building, which is the property of Messrs Simpson and Wil-> liams, for £4000 in various offices; and the stock of books and stationery for £7500 in various offices.
