Sydney, October 2!).—General Hut ton on being interviewed said that while deprecating any alarmist utterances he considered the position in the East threatening and that there was a greater necessity for a fedoral defence force than ever. Messrs Mac Arthur and Co. have completed arrangements with the Greenock Steamship Company for a regular line of monthly steamers from Australia to Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow beginning in May next.
