FIRE BRIGADE MEETINGS.

At a meeting of the Committee and others interested in the formation of the Fire Brigade held last Wednesday night Mr Corlett, who presided, mentioned what had been done since last mooting in the matter of interviewing the Town Board in reference to site of fire stations, water supply to old town, etc. The action of the deputation was approved and it was further decided to ask the permission] of

At a subsequent meeting held on Monday night, Mr Cbrlett again presiding, Messrs Mayes and Stewart reported that they had 26 names enrolled, out of which they considered a highly efficient brigade could be formed. Mr Ernest Davis narrated what lie had done in Auckland in furtherance oi' the object in view, and after some conversation, he was request!;'! to continue his efforts to obtain the assistance of the insurance companies and also to ascertain the cost of equipment including reel, hose, &Cv, for a Brigade of 20 incoi. A. vote of thanks was passed to Superintendent Hughes, of Auckland, for the inforiuation already given by him. Mr Mayes stated that he had seen the appliances at the Sanatorium ; they required some trifling repairs which could eas'ly be effected. The Chairman and Messrs .Mayes and Stewart were requeste 1 fed wait upon Mr Malfroy in regard to the use of the appliances for practice. It m.also decided to write to Mr W. Kelly. M.H.K., asking him to co-operate in obtaining Government assistance. It was resolved that a committee meeting should take place on Wednesday next, and a general meeting of subscribers and others on the following Friday for the election of officers, the formation of a periaaneni committee, and the consideration of rules. Mr E. Davis, on behalf of his firm, gave a donation of £2 2s to meet preliminary expenses. Yesterday Messrs Corlctt, Davis and Mayes saw Mr Malfroy who expressed his wishes for the success of the Brigade; and promised every assistance in'his power; The Brigade could have'the use of the.appliances belonging to the Government for ordinary practice weekly and for Wei practice monthly.
