OLD—BUT GOOD.
It is the custom of turf gentlemen to settle their accounts every Monday at Tattersall's. On ono occasion a backer, by an oversight, paid his bookmaker a betting debt which he had settled already. This put the bookie in a mental fix as to the best course to take. "Shall 1 rob myseif and famiiy," he urged with himself, "and return the money; or shall 1 keep it and go about with an accusing conscience ?" Unable to decide the point he sought the advice of a brother professional ©f greater experience. "Paid you twice over, did ho ?' said the latter. "Ask him for it again."
