Another Lost Child.—“ Sad to say,’* remarks the Melbourne Argus, “we have an exciting story about another lost child. A little girl the daughter of a laborer close by Buninyong, named M'lntosh, strayed away from her home on the 31st ult., and was lost in the bush. She was seen early in the afternoon by some men near the Green-hils, in the direction of the Durham, but they seem to have taken noimmediate notice of the fact, and did not report it till about six o’clock m the even- , ing, when the news of the loss of the child had got about. As soon as the fact had been discovered, all the township turned out, not excepting his Honor Judge Rogers, Mr Warden Sherrard, and all the loca notabilities, but after midnight, no trace of the little wanderer had been found. On the morning of Monday early the search was resumed, and alongside one of the fences in the direction of Durham, the searchers came upon a mark on the ground as of a place where a dog or a child had lain down. The search was prosecuted throughout the day, np to nearly dusk quite uuavailing. Every effort was made for several days to discover the poor child, but without success, until the 23rd inst., when she was found dead in the bush at a spot four miles from Buninyong.

Massacre of Eleven Persons at New Caledonia.—By the barque Camden, an extraordinary, issued by the New Caledonian Moniteur, has been received in Sydney detailing the full particulars of a fearful outrage perpetrated by: the natives in the vicinity of Puebo, in which it appears that eleven persons have been killed and fourteen wounded.

The Departure of the Governor. — The Wellington Independent, 16th Nov.* says:—“A private meeting was held at the Town Board room yesterday afternoon, by a number of the leading inhabitants of the town, in order to make preliminary arrangements . for the public meeting which his Honor the Superintendent has been requested to call in order to afford the people of Wellington an opportunity of expressing their regret at his Exoellency Sir George Grey's departure from the colony. There was a large attendance of merchants, ministers -of religion, and others. His Honor the Superintendent, who took the chair, explained the object of the meeting, and said that he had sent circulars to the leading members of the different public bodies in the place, inviting them to attend the-meeting, because he thought, as the various bodies might wish to present addresses to his * Excellency, it would be better if. they acted in unison. J lt had been suggested that a? dinner and ball should be given to his Excellency, and that he should be accompanied to the Heads by all the steainers in port.
