INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL

ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Council was held at Reef ton on Thursday, when there were present : C>'s Irving (Chairman). Mclnroe, Patterson, Watson, Barman, and O'Regan. An apology for absence was received from Cr Belts. CORRESPONDENCE. From McMahon and Lee (licensed land agents), Isaac Pattei'son, E. Rigg, and Mrs S. Williams, in regard to sales of property, and asking that the valuation rolls be amended accordingly. — Agreed to. From Dr E. H. Scott, secretary Energetic Prospecting Syndicate, asking the Council's recommendation for a Government subsidy towards prospecting lease adjoining Golden Treasure. — Agreed to. From District Railway Engineer, notifying tht the road to Cronadun railway station hod received attention. — Moved by Cr O'Regan, seconded by Cr Patterson and carried, that the District Engineer be requested to have a large culvert put in the road leading from Boatman's road to Cronadun railway station, as the present culvert is not large enough to carry the wafer in flood time, with the result that residences along Capleston. road are very often flooded. From Public Works Land Purchasing Agent, in regard to land taken for railway purposes. — The Chairman explained | that he had visited the Ferry Reserve on June 23rd. in company with the agent, and had agreed to recommend the Council to accept £20 as compensation for the land taken. From liquidator Blackwater River G.D. Co.. in regard to rates owing. — Received. From Town Clerk. Ross.' stating that his Council had fallen in with the suggestion in regard to subscribing towards the Belgian R.fiipf Fund. From District Railway Engineer, forward inw tearing of land required for. the Hock track from TUiIW road to Inangahna River. iv>ir Reefton. — A committee, consisting of Ihp Chairman and Crs Patterson and Watson, were appointee! to inspect the locality and report at next meeting. | From Rprgt. Murray, forwarding cony of letter from S. J. Provis, asking for work. — Resolved that applicant be given r>nv work that was being done near his home. From District Engineer, in regard to Fiery Cross road. — Ti was resolved that the Engineer be written to, requesting him, now that the Welcome Company is registered, to have the grant expended on the road ns speedily as possible. From Big River Co., calling attention (o the state of the road near the sliprails. — Repairs to be effected. From Mines Department, stating that a report was being obtained on application from Joseph Butler for assistance towards prospecting. — Recommendation to be forwarded to Minister of Mines. From A. Wright, contractor for road from Merri.iijrs to Big River, asking for ! extension of time for completion owing to wet weather. — Referred to Engineer. From County Solicitor, stating that a draft clause is being prepared for insertion in the Reserves Disposal Bill, declaring Strand Reserve, to be part of the Re^fton Domain. — Received. From Leggoe Bros., J. and W. Hughes. Kirby and Curry. Pascoe and Lawn, and Tnhn Dick, applications for slaughterhouse licenses. — Recommended to Minister. GENERAL BUSINESS. Moved by Cr Patterson, seconded by Cr Trying, that consideration of applications for the position of Overseer for the County be deferred until a full meeting of the Council. — Carried. The reports of the Engineer, sexton, and inspector of nuisances were read and received. Moved by Cr Patterson, seconded by Cr O'Regan. that the Engineer and Clerk ascertain the names of all persons connected with the water supply whose names are not on the books, and the same be billed for amounts due. — Carried. Moved by Cr Patterson, seconded by Cr Mclnroe, that the action of the Engineer in cancelling the license held by the Ikamatna Sawmilling Co. be confirmed. — Carried. Moved by Cr Watson, seconded ISy Cr Patterson, that the Inspector of Nuisances be empowered to prosecute any persons depositing rubbish on the streets or else, where in the town. — Carried. Moved by Cr O'Regan. seconded by Cr Patterson, that the Government he asked to hav c that portion of Reefton-Westport railway to the 18-mile peg authorised and completed. — Carried. Moved by Cr Mclnroe that the Engineer be instructed to ascertain the price of dredge ladder at Capleston for bridge lending to Post Office at Capleston. — Carried . Moved by Cr Irving, seconded by Cr Mclnroe,. that the Engineer be instructed to erect culverts on Grey road, between Taino-iti and Saddle. — Carried. Moved by Cr O'Regan, seconded by f'v Paterson, that £15 be spent on erection of bridge over Brown Creek leading to A. E. Paine's property. — Carried. Moved by Cr Mclnroe. seconded by Cr Barman. that horse and dray labor in the back country be paid Is per dav extra. An amendment was moved by Cr Watson, seconded by Cr Patterson, that the i*ate of pay remain as at present. — The Chairman declared the amendment carried. Moved by Cr Barman, seconded by Cr Irving, that the Engineer be instructed to hiive some pipes made to replace culverts, and quotations be procured for smaller burnt pipes,. — Carried. It was resolved that the sum of £ be spent in clearing the drain along Boatman's road, near Gilsenan's. It was resolved that the necessary steps be taken to transfer portion of abattoir reserve to Reefton Jockey Club. The accounts were passed for payment and the business closed.
