. .+» AMATEUR RUGBY. STARS 9, v. MARIST Nil.

The above teams met at Victoria Park on Saturday afterno-.n. and tTTer a hard, cl'^an game Stars proved too good for their opponents. The score consisted of three tries scored by McIntosh, White and Pring, one of which was converted. The first spell was i very evently contested, and produced some excellent Rugby. Mclntosh drew first blood for Stars after a fine run, the spell ending withut further siiore. In the second half both teams felt the absence of condition, but play was ci : a very good quality; Marist. on several occasions, getting very close to a score. From a fine bout of passing among the Star forwards, White raced across, but Nelson failed to goal. Near the call of time Pring got possession, and after a fine dash scored near the posts, the kick at goal again failing. Mr Wils-n made an efficient referee. FOURTH GRADE. Star defeated Runanga after a good game. Mr Mullavey carried the whistle. SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING. A special general meeting of members of the United, Runanga, and KohL noor Football Clubs, desirous of playing Rugby, was held in the Albion Hotel on Saturday evening, June 26th. Mr J. F. Wilson occupied the chair. There was a large attendance of members from each club, and after considerable discussion, it was decided that members of the Runanga and Kohinoor clubs co-operate with the United Club., and play under the old name (United Football Club). The following officers were then elected for the season: — President — Mr J. D. Lynch. Vice-Presidents — The old vice-presi-dents, elected at beginning of season, and Messrs W. Flynn, Wingham, M. Barry, Geo. Millar, J. O 'Reilly, Felix Campbell. Club Captain — Mr Win. Casey. Vice.Captain — Mr C. E. Good. Secretary and Treasurer — Mr N. W. Jones. Committee — Messrs E. McGuinness, G. Little, Wm. Dittman, S. Morris, C. Fraser, W. Robson. Delegates to Rugby Union — Messrs E. McGuinness, W. Dittmau, T. Barry. Selection Committee — Messrs H. W. Franklin, S. Morris, E. McGuinness, captain and viee-oaptain. Auditors — Messrs J. O'Rielly, and J. F. Wilson. Judging by the very enthusiastic meeting, the "United" team should give a good accouut of itself this season, as it has been strengthened by sme first-class players from both the Runanga and Kohinor Clubs, and with the Uniteds again in the field, Rugby football should hold its own on the Coast in fuce of all opposition. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated one of the most enthusiastic meetings in the late history of the club. LEAGUE MATCH. In. the League Football match between Blackball and Kol.inoor, the hitter were the victors. by 12 points to 10. The game, which was played on the Recreation Gtound, attracted a good attendance. It proved a capi tal exposition of the Northern Code, being fast and exciting throughout Contrary to expectations, KoLinoor proved superior to their opponents, and if they had had a better knowledge the of the rules of the game would have had a mud: bigger win. As it was their opponents did not sue ceed i n crossing their line, Blackballs score being made up of penalty goals.
