(Reed. 5 p.rti ) LONDON, June 18 The Bradford- Comm'ercers are strongly protesting agamsc the Japanese increased tariff on textiles, and demand that the Government make great endeavours on behalf of British manufactures. In Committee of Supply on the Local Government Board, salaries, Mi Asquith urged^ that Mr Burns should be released from the pledge not to accept the proposed increase of his salary, as the Government con sidered that^his^ Department Ought to be on an equality with: the Board oi Trade. Mr Lee C^^A moved as an amend ment that the salary remain at £2,---000. ("iTWJ-* 1 1 . ] This was negatived by, 159 to 13 Messrs Byles, Loughs a f nd Seddon advocated retrenchment instead of in creases.
