(from odr own correspondents.) Wellington, May 2. The s.s. Taranaki made a very successful trial trip on Saturday. Mr Carrington has been elected for Omata, Taranaki. H.M. s.s. Challenger sails for Australia to-morrow. (From the West Coast Times.) Napier, May 1. The St. Kilda has arrived from Poverty Bay with information that Te Kooti is in the valley at the head of the Waioeka Gorge. Letters via Taupo from Mair and Preece confirm this. Ropata, with 350 men, has started from Poverty Bay in pursuit of Te Kooti. A scouting party, under Captain Preece, in the Urewera country, captured three horses and saddles. The riders escaped into the bush. Tamiahana Teke Teke, who killed Harnctt on leaving the Chatham Islands, was killed at Opapa. The St. Kilda left this morning with Mr Locke for Poverty Bay, Opotika, and Tauranga.. To the latter place she conveys two telegraphists, and material for proceeding with the telegraph line. Rumor states that Colonel St. John has been directed to acj; in conjunction with Ropata, Mair, and. Preece, in the expedition against Te Kooti.
