ACCUSATION.
CHARGE OF FALSE PRETENCE. ALLEGED TOTALISATOIt TRICK. AT THE FEILDING RACES. MAN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. A man named A. Simpkin was before the S.M. Court at Feilding this juufuing charged with attempting lo get from the Feilding Jockey Club the sum of £52 15s by means of a false pretence. The evidence led by Scrgt. W'illis was to the effect that the accused had gone to the ,to window at the Feilding races on Easter Monday and presented a £5 ticket purporting to be on Sir Fisher in the sixth race. The dividend would have been worth £52 15s. The pay-out clerk had called Mr Gooclall, who took accused into tho totalisator house mid asked him how he became! possessed of the- ticket. Accused Mr Goodall ho had a half-share in it with another man whoso name he- did not know. Accused was asked to sign his nameon'the ticket, and wrote "A. iSimpKon." Tho ticket was really issued on the third race, and the code word had been interfered with. Mr 0. E. Mackay appeared for the accused, who was committed for trial to the Supreme Court at I'almcratou.
