Mr Cartuicliael, Minister of Education, has resigned his portfolio. His. reasons are understood to be purely personal, no question affecting the policy of the party or Government boing involved. Premier Holman stated that the resignation was, a great surprise. Cabinet had failed to persuade Mr Carmichael that ' the situation did not justify his retirement. Mr Carmidiael states that his resignation is largely n mntto of personal difference with the Premier.. The caucus meets on Tuesday to fill the vacancy. Mr Holman takw the Education portfolio temporarily. The Hon. Mr Flowers states that (he. mutton deal is solely between the Imperial and the State authorities, without the intervention of middlemen. The New South Wales Tanners' Association is urging the Federal Government to modify the' drastic measures regarding the prohibit'on of l?ather to- Africa, New Zealandj, and the East, pointing out that half the tanners in New South Wales will be compelled to close owing to the congestion of leather, which they are unable to ship. , .
