AND A FREIGHT FOR IT.

Wellington, March 26. lhe Carriage Builders' Conference considered the question of the freights charged by the Railway Department on Australian hardwood from ports to inland towns. It was stated that the charge was 50 per cent, more than tor locally grown timber. The conference decided to wait on the Minister of Railways to urge the abolition of the surcharge. Several papers were read by delegates on matters affecting the' trade, and the conference adjourned till tomorrow.
