RONGOTEA.

SOME DISTRICT NOTES

The Hockey Club euchre party and dance proved to be a very successful event. Cards occupied from 8 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. (when supper was served), and dancing followed till 2 a.m. The attendance was very good considering the number of counter attractions, there being 110 to 112 present. The winners proved to be Miss Scott (of Glen Oroua) and Mr Leen (Rongotea), Miss Fowler (Glen Oroua) and Mr J. McCutcheon (Makowhai) gaining the "booby" prizes. The presentation of prizes was made by Mr F. G. Seddon, who, on behalf of the committee, thanked those present for the support and patronage they had given the Club, in this, their initial effort to raise funds for next season, and they also wished ,to publicly thank Mr I*. W. Bottcher, who had gone to so much trouble in keeping the ground (which he had kindly lent the Club) in such good condition. Mi - Lancaster (of Glen Oroua) had donated a hockey stick to be presented to the _ player showing most improvement during the season. This was awarded to Mr J. Walsh, by ballot of members of the club. The whole of the arrangements were well carried out under the direction of Mr C. Buckman (the Club Secretary), who was ably supported by an energetic committee. Messrs Martin and McKenzie provided the music for the dance in their usual good style. Everything being considered, tho ' Hockey Chib may be congratulated on their success.

The new boiler for the factory has arrived. Most people expected to see something big and bulky coming down the road, being drawn by a dozen or more horses, instead of which it has arrived here in sections, and Mr Saunders, who had the carting contract, had it delivered before the public realised that the packing cases, etc., contained the parts necessary to complete a 100 h.p. (nominal) boiler. Mr Walkley was taken to the Hospital on Thursday last. Mr G. A. Hickford has gone up to Rotorua on a health-sesking trip. The wintry weather which we have had the last few days has materially affected the dairy farmers in this district. In some cases they are 40 and 50 per cent behind this time last year.
